OUR TROOP

Who We Are
Troop 443 was chartered in March 2014 with 8 original scouts. From that small group we have grown into almost 20 scouts in one year. We have also recruited a lot of dedicated leaders to make the program an exciting and rewarding experience for our Scouts. We are Boy-Led and pride overselves on the outstanding job our youth leaders do.

LEADING YOUTH TO LIFELONG VALUES
Scouting is a values-based program with its own code of conduct. The Scout Oath and Law help instill the values of good conduct, respect for others, and honesty. Scouts learn skills that will last a lifetime, including basic outdoor skills, first aid, citizenship skills, leadership skills, and how to get along with others. For almost a century, Scouting has instilled in young men the values and knowledge that they will need to become leaders in their communities and country.
What We Offer
Outdoor adventure is the promise made to boys when they join Scouting. Boys yearn for outdoor programs that stir their imagination and interest.
In the outdoors, boys have opportunities to acquire skills that make them more self-reliant. They can explore canoe and hiking trails and complete challenges they first thought were beyond their ability. Attributes of good character become part of a boy as he learns to cooperate to meet outdoor challenges that may include extreme weather, difficult trails and portages, and dealing with nature's unexpected circumstances. Scouts plan and carry out activities with thoughtful guidance from their Scoutmaster and other adult leaders. Good youth leadership, communication, and teamwork enable them to achieve goals they have set for themselves, their patrol and their troop.
Learning by doing is a hallmark of outdoor education. Unit meetings offer information and knowledge used on outdoor adventures each month throughout the year. A leader may describe and demonstrate a Scouting skill at a meeting, but the way Scouts truly learn outdoor skills is to do it themselves on a troop outing.

Some of the many activities we offer are camping, orienteering, geocaching, boating, archery, shooting sports, fishing, climbing, rappelling, COPES courses, whitewater rafting and we cap it off with a trip to Summer Camp every year. The scouts learn many skills in the pursuit of these activites from using knives and axes to cooking to knot tying to leadership skills and a whole gamut of other useful experiences.
Uniform and Insignia of
Troop 443
Troop 443's offical Field Uniform consists of the Tan BSA Uniform Shirt, Green Shoulder Loops, a Red with Black Embroidered Neckerchief with slide and Olive Green Pants or Shorts. This is the uniform worn at every meeting unless instructed otherwise.
The neckerchief slide is the choice of the individual scout or patrol. The pants do not have to be offical BSA scout pants, but they must be very close in color.
Some other uniform options are Green BSA socks, a scout related hat and a green Boy Scout belt. Once again, these are optional and do not have to be worn.
Once a scout starts to earn Merit Badges, he can wear them on a Boy Scout sash. The sash should be worn during formal occassions such as Boards of Review, Courts of Honor, Formal Flag Ceremonies, Scout Sunday and other ceremonies that the troop participates in.
The Activity Uniform consists of the Olive Green pants/shorts and a T-shirt. The troop has custom Troop 443 t-shirts for sale.
Please see the Uniform page for more information.
